The Kulyakartu native title claim was filed in the Federal Court on 11 October 2005. On 8 November 2007 Central Desert took over the legal representation of the native title claim from Yamatji Marlpa Aboriginal Corporation.

The Kulyakartu claim is currently in mediation.

Land Access & Future Acts

The Kulyakartu native title claim is registered with the National Native Title Tribunal. Therefore, any access on to the native title claim area is regulated by the future acts process in the Native Title Act.

Access to Kulyakartu native title claim for mining and petroleum tenure purposes

The Kulyakartu native title claimants have not as yet developed a standard agreement with the purpose of protecting cultural heritage sites and areas of cultural significance during the conduct of exploration or prospecting activities within their native title claim area.

Central Desert will seek instructions from the Kulyakartu native title claimants in relation to an agreement for this purpose in due course.

All non-mining/petroleum titles on registered native title claims require an application to be made to the relevant government department and the requisite notifications to be made under the future acts process in the Native Title Act.
