Central Desert is Culture and Heritage Records Officer to work alongside the Birriliburu People—Martu people's Prescribed Body Corporate.

Mungarlu Ngurrarankatja Rirraunkaja (Aboriginal Corporation) RNTBC (MNR) was established to hold and manage native title rights and interests in trust on behalf of the Birriliburu People.

The Birriliburu Culture and Heritage Records Officer will be responsible for collecting, organising and safeguarding cultural, heritage and related materials that are essential to the Birriliburu People’s legacy and future.

The position will work closely with MNR’s Directors, Cultural Heritage Advisor, the Birriliburu community, and service providers.

Based in Perth, with occasional travel to Wiluna, it is a part-time role of 22.5 hours per week, worked flexibly between Monday and Friday during ordinary business hours.

Final days and hours will be negotiated based on the preferred candidate’s needs and operational requirements.

This position is offered as a maximum term contract for a period of 6 to 9 months, with the final term to be determined through negotiation.

What We’re Looking For

We’re seeking someone who brings a mix of cultural awareness, practical skills, and a genuine commitment to supporting Aboriginal communities. The ideal candidate will have:

• Demonstrated cultural competency and previous experience working with Aboriginal people.

• Skills and competence in project management including in meeting funding and financial reporting requirements, and record keeping.

• High level computer skills with competency using databases and file management software.

• Ability to establish and maintain relationships across different cultural perspectives, professional contexts and capabilities.

• Ability to self-manage including the ability to prioritise tasks, meet deadlines, and use initiative.

• Ability to engage effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and with stakeholders.

• Ability to occasionally travel to Wiluna when required.

• Current and valid Australian manual driver’s licence.

• National Police Clearance (not older than 6 months).

The salary range offered is between $80,835 to $106,965 per annum [pro-rata] plus superannuation depending on skills and experience. As a not-for-profit, Central Desert offers salary packaging, which can boost your take-home pay by reducing taxable income.
